Death by Degrees

ANNE CASE and SIR ANGUS DEATON
Anne Case and Sir Angus Deaton are emeritus professors of economics at Princeton. Professor Deaton was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in economics, and together they have performed groundbreaking research examining the striking divergence in mortality for Americans with and without college degrees. Their research demonstrates that so-called deaths of despair — from suicide, drugs and alcohol — have risen dramatically for those lacking a college degree. Meanwhile, college graduates have been largely spared. Why is adult longevity so closely correlated with higher education? Professors Case and Deaton will examine the trajectory of longevity they revealed in their bestselling book Deaths of Despair and the Future of Capitalism.
