Paul Farmer has devoted his life to improving health care for the world’s poorest peoples.
A medical anthropologist and physician, Dr. Farmer co-founded Partners in Health, a non-profit pioneer in improving global health care services, research and advocacy. Dr. Farmer’s innovative approach to community-based healthcare was detailed in Tracy Kidder’s best-selling book Mountains beyond Mountains and is also demonstrated in PIH’s support for COVID-19 contact tracing. Dr. Farmer is a professor of medicine and Chief of Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s Division of Global Health Equity.
