Gregory Maguire, author of the novel WICKED, which inspired the Broadway play now in its 11th year, will speak about the confluence of childhood exposure to Oz and a lifetime of concern for children and literacy. He’ll consider the inspiration for The Wicked Years, his four-book series with over six million copies in print. A resident of Concord, a frequent guest author in Lexington Public Schools in the 1980s and 90s, an occasional contributor to NPR and the New York Times Book Review, Maguire is also the author, most recently, of EGG & SPOON, a novel set in Tsarist Russia and featuring another notorious witch–Baba Yaga.
Biography
Gregory Maguire received his Ph.D. in English and American Literature from Tufts University. His work as a consultant in creative writing for children has taken him to speaking engagements across the United States and abroad. He is a founder and codirector of Children’s Literature New England, Incorporated, a non-profit educational charity established in 1987. The author of numerous books for children, Mr. Maguire is also a contributor to Am I Blue?: Coming Out From the Silence, a collection of short stories for gay and lesbian teenagers
