CARY HALL • SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14TH, 2017 AT 8:00 PM
Note: Tickets are no longer required for admission into lectures.
Jose C. Florez, MD, PhD is the Chief of the Diabetes Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital, an Associate Professor at Harvard, and an Institute Member at the Broad Institute. In 2010 he was honored with the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers by President Obama, the highest honor bestowed by the United States government on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers. In his talk he will address the emerging approach of precision medicine, a quest to unravel the genetic basis of diseases and their complications, and to provide the rationale for effective, precision-tailored therapies. Why do some people get certain diseases, and others do not? Can treatment be individualized? Dr. Florez will discuss diabetes as a case study to explain the power of contemporary genetics to address these crucial questions.
