“The Science of Happiness” with Catherine Sanderson

April 25th, 2020

Saturday, April 25th, 2020 at 8:00 pm. POSTPONED: New date to be announced later

This lecture will take place at Cary Hall.

Do money, marriage, friends, children, weather, age, and religion make us feel happier? Is happiness stable over time? How can happiness be increased? Catherine Sanderson, the Manwell Family Professor of Life Sciences (Psychology) at Amherst College, will present surprising and not-so-surprising information on the science behind happiness. She will describe cutting-edge research from the field of positive psychology on what factors do and do not predict happiness, and will offer practical (and relatively easy!) ways to increase psychological well-being. Prof. Sanderson is the author of numerous scholarly journal articles and books, including The Positive Shift (2019) and the forthcoming Why We Act (2020). Her courses on happiness have attracted national attention.
