World Building: Explorations in Writing Books for Children
Kathryn Lasky has written over 100 books for children, including picture books, fiction and nonfiction. She is a Newbery Honor medalist and two-time winner of the National Jewish book award. Lasky is best known for the animal fantasy series The Guardians of Ga’Hoole which was made into an animated film, Legend of The Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. Lasky will describe how she creates these worlds of fantasy, and how she researches her historical fiction. Do these worlds of fantasy, history and nonfiction ever overlap? Ms. Lasky writes for grownups as Kathryn Lasky Knight. One of her adult books, Atlantic Circle, describes making two transatlantic crossings in a thirty-foot sailboat with her husband.
